Today, Apple added new Smart Battery Cases to its accessories lineup. The new case costs $129 for the XS, XS Max, and XR models. The cases include support for Qi wireless charging. The included Lightning port enables improved charging speeds via USB-PD compatible chargers. “Smart” refers to the devices integration with iOS. The integration enables display of the case’s battery status in the Lock Screen and Notification Center. They also modified the design of the case so the “bump” starts at the bottom edge of the device.
All three models of case include the same capacity lithium ion battery. The XS sees the biggest benefit due to the lower capacity internal battery and smaller retina display.

Since upgrading to the iPhone XS, I’ve had very little issue with battery life. During the work week, my phone sits on an Anker wireless charger at my desk. My phone is rarely below 50% battery when I go to bed. I don’t have an immediate need for extended battery case. But, I expect I’ll come back to these new cases when I head out this summer for some extended travel.
